A Returning Resident is a permanent resident (lawful permanent resident or conditional resident or green card holder) who returns to the U.S. after staying outside of the United States. To maintain the permanent resident status, a green card holder should not stay outside of the U.S. for more than one year in a single stay without re-entry permit. If the stay is more than 180 days but less than 1 year, you must apply for readmission to the United States.
