Marriage Certificate: Also known as a marriage contract or marriage license, a marriage certificate is proof that a green card applicant is legally married in the United States. Spouses of U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents must provide a copy of this as evidence that their marriage is valid to the U.S. government. They also have to bring the original copy or the official replacement to their green card interview.
