INS: The United States Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) was a Department of Justice agency that oversaw immigration and naturalization applications and policies. The INS was dissolved in 2003 and its functions passed to three new agencies — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
