US EMBASSY IN PHILIPPINES ISSUES FIRST VISA TO SAME SEX FIANCE

U.S. Service Member and fiance receive first same sex fiancee visa

The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines issued the first same sex fiancé visa on December 2, 2013 to Robert Cotterman and Noel Amara.  Robert Cotterman, a U.S. service member recently returned from Afghanistan.  The two met online about two years ago and plan to marry this month in California.

Getting Married in Colombia

Colombian law requires verification of eligibility to marry before a ceremony is performed.  For Colombian citizens a copy of their civil registration issued by the Colombian National Registry verifies their eligibility to marry.  For U.S. Citizens verification may vary based on the individual preforming the ceremony therefore it is best to be prepared to provide more than one form of verification.  Additionally  applicants must provide a certified copy of their birth certificate along with a certified Spanish translation if applicable.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, has just released a policy memorandum (PM) that provides guidance on the adjudication of Form I-485, Application to Register or Adjust Status, filed by immediate relatives of U.S. citizens who were last admitted under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
